
As usual, BBC News has posted images of the paintings shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award, worth £25,000; but this year's gallery comes with a hint of BBC panic:

Auntie by Aleah Chapin is my favourite to win. The subject evinced great courage and a sense of humour in posing for this painting. So the artist conveys Auntie's personality as well as her naked figure, and it is a fine painting. There is no hint of psychology in the other 3 shortlisted works. They are merely paintings of uninspiring subjects. The winner will be announced on 19 June, two days before the exhibition opens at the National Portrait Gallery in London (
